Autodesk presented an insightful panel discussion about the business value of BIM. A big thanks to Chuck Mies from Autodesk for moderating this event. Sherry Ault was invited to be a panelist and discuss her perspective and experience.

More owners are requiring BIM to be used in their projects. Despite the requirement, many are slow to utilize BIM and its value. Due to this, Contractors, Designers, and Owners are often confused on why and how to implement BIM.

Sherry responded to this dilemma by highlighting that “owners are pushing hard and the users have to have time to catch up. That implementation does cause strain for designers and contractors, and sometimes it’s a tremendous strain on a company as a whole. We must be patient”.

One way to approach this new change in the industry is turning our silo-based workflow into collaborative approach. Early communication with everyone involved is key to insuring successful projects.
